Alex Goettel is the singer/songwriter behind Rochester-based band, The Byways.  The Byways are a folk rock band, in the tradition of Tom Petty or The Byrds, but with elements of Americana, pop, and alternative rock woven into their sound.  Better said by City Newspaper’s Frank DeBlase, they are “indie rock, without too much preciousness or quirk.”

When not backed by his band, Alex performs his songs stripped down, occasionally using a loop pedal to help fill out the sound. His solo repertoire includes a decade’s worth of original songs, plus dozens of covers that any audience will recognize.
