In addition to being an accomplished and versatile saxophonist and woodwind player, Bill Tiberio is a music educator. He has over 25 years of experience in theÂ field of public music education, and has been at Fairport (NY) high school for 23 years. At Fairport, Bill conducts the top Concert Band, two jazz ensembles, jazz combos, pit orchestras, chamber ensembles, and teaches woodwinds throughout the district. He is the former president of the NY State Chapter of the International Association of Jazz Educators, and is on the summer jazz faculty for the Eastman Community Music and the Hochstein School of Music. For the last five years, Bill has been the conductor of the University of Rochester Wind Symphony and for this last year, the UR Jazz Ensemble. During the 2010-2011 school year, Bill directed the Thursday Night Jazz Lab Band at Ithaca College.
The Bill Tiberio Band is truly a collaborative project, and the members are focusing on contemporary jazz styles. Original music has been penned by keyboardist and trumpeter Scott Bradley, a free-lance Rochester musician. Other longtime Rochester musicians round out this engaging ensemble- guitarist Joe Chiappone works regularly with the Rochester funky horn band, Prime Time Funk; bassist Geoff Smith is in demand all over the area on electric and acoustic bass, and drummer Phil Lake has been a top call player for decades in the jazz, pop, and rock scenes. This band, showcasing over 125 years of collective performing experience, formed in the Spring of â€™08 and debuted on the RIJF Big Tent Stage that June. Their first disc, “Brothers,” was recorded live and released in June, 2010.
