PRESENTED BY BREWERY OMMEGANG
Hawker M. James opens the show @ 8pm!
Hawker M. James is Mike (or Mikey) James, a multi-instrumentalist and producer based in Rochester, NY. James first came to recognition as the drummer in early aughts NYC buzz band (and Strokes stalwarts), Longwave. James has led and fronted several solo-driven acts after Longwave, including The Mercies (in which “People (Movin’ On)” was featured on KCRW’s Morning Becomes Eclectic) and Mikey Jukebox — both of which have made the indie charts and had songs featured on hit TV shows including Community, Gossip Girl, & New Girl. In 2013, following another project makeover, James signed to Ardent Music in Memphis, (home of Big Star), and made a studio pop record under the alias, Admirers, which also found him in the electronic charts and year end best lists. Finally, James’ eclectic career winds and builds towards a current collection of singer-songwriter rooted pop, coalescing in his first Hawker full length, “Long Playing Lo-Fidelity”, a so to speak, full-circle-going-back to the endearing naivete of his early 4-track material but coming at it with the polish and seasoning of decades’ worth of songwriting.
Followed by headliners QUILT…
QUILT was formed in late 2008 in Boston, MA. They spent the first couple of years honing a strange yet magnetic ramshackle sound in the smoke-filled basements and living rooms of Jamaica Plain and Allston. They released a home-made tape in 2009, touring DIY style around the northeast in a 1993 Buick Roadmaster.
Quilt’s self-titled ten-song debut was released in November 2011 on Mexican Summer to positive reviews from critics and the band began touring in support of the record on and off for the next year or so.
Their following record, Held In Splendor, was recorded in Brooklyn with producer Jarvis Taveniere. Released in early 2014, the album ushered in another year of near-constant touring. The trio recruited New Hampshire-based bassist Keven Lareau for their live shows.
Nearly two years later, Quilt’s third full-length record, Plaza, saw the light of day on February 26th, 2016. Lead singles “Eliot St” and “Roller” have been met with praise and the group has full US and Europe tours lined up.
“Luminous, unfiltered, haunting psych-folk that teeters among three dangerously creative minds” – Boston Phoenix
“Either they replicate specific moments in the history of 20th-century American music that we cannot concretely pin down, or they are designed to reflect a set of unwritten expectations and parameters”- Pitchfork
