ft. Maria Gillard Trio & Watkins and the Rapier
A BENEFIT CONCERT to support our friends in Moshi, Tanzania, Africa. These men have spent most of their adult lives working as porters to help people climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro, move their campsites from place to place. Now is the time to return them the favor of building homes for them as they retire from this strenuous work. This is also to benefit a music program in the community of Moshi as well as an orphanage there.
3pm – Maria Gillard Trio
Maria Gillard Trio consists of Maria Gillard-vocals and guitar, Elaine Verstraete- vocals and Stand up Bass, and Perry Cleaveland- vocals, fiddle and mandolin. This talented trio plays Maria Gillard’s original songs which are a mix of folk, swing, bluegrass and jazz. A stellar songwriter with rich images, Gillard’s voice brings out that richness with her silky smooth alto voice. Their voices blend in perfect harmony. Along with exceptional cohesive timing of Elaine Verstraete’s bass, multi-instrumentalist Perry Cleaveland adds a breezy emotional dimension to this very poetic and stirring music .
4:30pm – Watkins and the Rapiers
It’s hard to categorize Watkins and the Rapiers music. For the most part it blends Americana, eclectic, folk music with a beat. Instruments include drums, bass, acoustic and electric guitars, accordion, keyboards, trombone, mandolin, ukulele, harmonica, melodica, kazoo. WOW! Watkins plays originals and covers of The Band, Traveling Wilburys, Steve Earle, Colorblind James and others. There are six band members who entertain with the equivalent value of a Saturday night LIVE cast. You don’t want to miss this!!
